Coaching Psychology for Families

Here at Pegasus Coaching, we craft a range of bespoke coaching packages based on your family's needs and goals.

We use techniques and approaches that are embedded in psychological theory, research and practice that are designed to empower you to build stronger relationships and lean into your family's existing strengths and qualities for a mutually-respectful and harmonious home life.

We believe that all families deserve to enjoy life in a safe, cooperative and positive home environment - we are here to work with you to identify your family's goals and move towards them.

Family Wellbeing

As parents. we know you are doing the best you can but life can be full of ups and downs!

Sometimes the "downs" can catch us unprepared and can have knock-on effects for one or more members of the family.

We encourage you to explore and identify individual and family strengths and values; develop effective communication strategies; understand each others' perspectives; recognise and celebrate achievements and successes; collaborate to find solutions to problems; and set effective boundaries.

There is a strong link between physical and emotional health - we can support you to understand and manage family stress, as well as prioritise health and wellbeing with practical self-care strategies.

Whatever shape your family life takes, we work with you and your family members to build emotional resilience and to foster healthy family relationships and belonging.

Educational Transition

Transitioning through different stages of education, particularly when it involves changing schools or living away from home in boarding school, can be quite a challenge. Moving into a new educational environment (even within the same school) can bring unfamiliar demands and expectations, requiring adjustments that can feel both exciting and overwhelming - to students and parents alike!

Young people and parents who are adapting to newly identified special educational needs and disabilties (SEND) often experience a range of emotions while forging the best paths both at school and at home.

Our coaching sessions are designed to empower parents as well as their children to navigate these changes with confidence, turning what could be a daunting experience into an enjoyable and rewarding journey. Our experience has shown that even when only one member of the family is going through a change to their education, there is often a ripple effect felt by all members of the family.

We work together to identify existing skills and strengths that can be leveraged to adapt to new challenges, shape goals and aspirations for academic and personal growth, and develop new skills and strategies to tackle the transition with problem-solving skills, flexibility, perspective, and resilience.

Whatever stage you are in of your educational journey, we will work with you to turn this big leap into a series of manageable steps.

Family Relocation

There are many different reasons for relocating as a family. Sometimes this is a choice that comes from within and is made with full agency and sometimes external factors dictate the move. Our responses can vary depending on the circumstances surrounding our move.

Relocations vary in terms of distance too - whether moving to a new part of the country you're in or to a new country entirely, changing your immediate living environment can profoundly impact the family dynamic. Relocating overseas can be particularly challenging due to additional complexities such as language and cultural barriers, and geographical/time differences between you and your existing support networks.

Regardless of why or how far you are moving, we can work together to iron out any worries, issues or challenges and facilitate a successful transition to your new environment.

Other Family Transitions

There are numerous subtle shifts and significant changes that families encounter over time:

  • marriage
  • parenthood
  • separation
  • loss
  • merging of families
  • changes in parental employment
  • new diagnosis or health challenges

Some family transitions arise through careful planning whereas others are completely unexpected; each presents a distinct array of possibilities and hurdles, and they often require open communicationflexibilityresilience and  support to navigate successfully.

At Pegasus Coaching we recognise that every family is unique and that all of these changes to family life can impact family members quite differently - we work together to equip everyone with appropriate coping tools while creating space for compassion and empathy towards one another.

"My son now sees the opportunities and feels excited about the move instead of feeling like this is something that's being done to him and he has to fight against." (Olivia B.)
